Sylhet Police Superintendent Mohammad Farid Uddin said police arrested him at the Dona border in Kanaighat on Monday morning as he fled to India.
However, various videos posted on Facebook after Akbar’s arrest give different indications. Meanwhile, a Kanaighat resident named Rahim Uddin came to the discussion. He was the one who captured Akbar across the border and brought him to Bangladesh.

The video shows Rahim Uddin and a few others standing on a mound surrounded by trees and talking. Although Akbar was not seen in the video, his voice could be heard.
At the beginning of the video, Akbar is heard crying: ‘Brother, I sent him to the hospital, brother, brother of my religion.’
At the time, when many people were interested in making a video of Akbar’s arrest, Rahim was heard saying, ‘Give it to Bejan Net.’
Then Akbar said again: ‘I did not kill. I sent him to the hospital.
At that moment, a person next to Rahim Uddin called someone on his mobile phone. He then handed the phone to Rahim Uddin.
Rahim Uddin said on the phone: “I have found someone in OC Sir, I am still there.”
According to local sources, Abdur Rahim Laxmi Prasad is the son of the late Taraf Ali from the Eastern Union border area of Dona. He brought Akbar from Khasias and handed him over to the police. However, due to various initiatives by the district police, it was possible to arrest Akbar as soon as possible, locals said.
Two days after Raihan’s murder, several sources confirmed that Akbar had fled to Meghalaya, India, via Companiganj in Sylhet with the help of a local journalist. He fled to India with the help of a local journalist and a broker, intelligence sources said. The broker has already been arrested. Journalist Noman Ahmed, who helped Akbar escape, is on the run.
