The district police handed over the SI (expelled) Akbar Hossain Bhunya, in charge of the Bandarbazar police outpost in Sylhet, to the Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the agency investigating the case. He will be presented in court on Tuesday, showing his arrest under the Custody of Death (Prevention) Act, PBI said.

Akbar was handed over to PBI at around 7.30pm on Monday. Sylhet Police Superintendent Mohammad Farid Uddin confirmed the information. Previously, Akbar was arrested with the help of locals from the Dona border in Kanaighat, a border Upazila from Sylhet. He was taken to the Police Superintendent’s office at night.

At a press conference at the time, Police Superintendent Mohammad Farid Uddin said police received information on Sunday that Akbar may have fled across the Kanaighat border. Additional police were deployed there for this. The police team was led by the CO of the Kanaighat and Zakiganj Police Stations. Previously, Akbar was under special surveillance for three consecutive days. Plainclothes district police were able to arrest Akbar at 9 a.m. on Monday.

Sylhet Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mofiz Uddin Ahmed was also present at the press conference. He said no one has a chance to get away with it. Whatever the culprit, whatever the force, the police were trying to bring him under the law. He managed to try.
