Iran’s Defense Minister, Brigadier General Amir Hatami, has said that an agreement was reached with Russia and China to buy weapons after the lifting of the UN arms embargo on his country.
He made the announcement in an interview with Qatari Al Jazeera television.
He said Tehran had reached a major agreement with Moscow on the expansion and development of Iran’s air force.
Iran’s defense minister says the lifting of UN sanctions has created ample opportunity for his country to export weapons and import weapons from other countries.
At the same time, he warned against starting an arms race in the Middle East, saying that if an arms race started in the region, the entire Middle East would become a heap of gunpowder.
General Hatami said his country was also ready to sign military and security agreements with the Persian Gulf states.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, the Iranian Defense Minister flatly denied rumors that Russia was bringing weapons to Armenia through his country.
He said that Tehran hopes that Turkey, as an important and influential country in the region, will try to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis through diplomatic means.
In response to another question, General Hatami said that Iran would not discuss its missile program with the United States under any circumstances; No one should expect such a thing from Tehran.
