A case has been brought against five people, including the president of the Bangabandhu Cultural Alliance and the former Minister of State for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim, for distorting history against the founder of BNP and late president Ziaur Rahman.

Ekushey medal winner Abu Saleh presented the case at the Second Assistant Senior Judge’s Court in Dhaka on Monday.

The other defendants in the case are playwright Mannan Hira, actor Saju Khadem, MP from Noakhali-2 and RTV chairman Morshed Alam and the secretary of the Ministry of Information. A hearing will be held on Tuesday on the admissibility of the case.

It is worth mentioning that the drama ‘Indemnity’ recently aired on various channels, including satellite TV and Facebook, in protest of Bangabandhu’s acquittal. The play also deals with the power-sharing and behind-the-scenes incidents of Pakistan’s allies in the power-hungry clique of the state after the brutal murder of the Father of the Nation in ’75.

As a symbolic protest against the infamous Compensation Ordinance, the Bangabandhu Cultural Alliance built the work with its own funds. The 43-minute drama was hosted by Tarana Halim, President of Bangabandhu Sanskriti Jote and former Minister of State for Posts and Telecommunications.

Saju Khadem, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Chitranayak Riaz and many others have acted in different roles in the play. The play is composed and directed by Mannan Hira.

The effigies of Tarana Halim and Saju Khadem are known to have been burned on Monday in protest of making a play by distorting history and insulting the martyred president Ziaur Rahman.
