In Tangail, 10-year-old Shanta was killed by wrapping her neck in a scarf. Carpenter Majedur Rahman has admitted that he was raped after the murder. He admitted it in his statement in court on Friday. Judicial magistrate Sumon Kumar Karmakar recorded his statement after it was sent to the Tangail Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon. At the end of the deposition, he was sent to jail.
Tangail (OC) Police Officer in Charge Mir Mosharraf Hossain said four people from the village were taken to the police station for questioning after the body was recovered. At one stage of the interrogation, Majedur Rahman, 25, Anwar Hossain’s son, confessed to raping the boy after killing Shanta. He later agreed to testify in court.
In his statement, Majedur said that Shanta arrived at his lemon field on the afternoon of the incident. Then Majidur grabbed Shanta’s neck and removed her veil for the purpose of raping him. When Shanta tried to scream, he grabbed the scarf. At one point, when he passed out, Majedur raped Shanta and left her.
Shanta has not been found since last Wednesday afternoon. At around 8pm, the locals saw her body lying in a small field next to the house. Upon receiving the news, the police went to retrieve the body. The body was released to the family after an autopsy at Tangail General Hospital on Thursday. Shanta’s brother, Sunny Alam, filed a case at the police station on Thursday (September 10) evening.
The body of the child Shanta was recovered from his home in the Madhyapara village of Chowdhury Malanch Mirpur in the Magra junction of Sadar upazila on Wednesday evening. Shanta is the daughter of Sadeq Ali from that village.
