Abdur Rahman, 65, general secretary of the Awami League in the city’s Alkaran district, died of a heart attack on Monday night.
He was buried in the Nagar Baish Mahalla Cemetery after his janaza on the premises of the city’s old train station on Tuesday afternoon. The top leaders of the Nagar Awami League were present at the janaza.
Later, Nagar Rahman’s brother Rashid, deputy general secretary of the Awami League, died at 5.15 pm.
The two deceased brothers were known in Nagar Awami League politics as “clean and pure” politicians. His death has cast a shadow of mourning among the leaders and activists of the Chittagong Awami League.
Shafiqul Islam Farooq, publicity secretary for the Nagar Awami League, told bdnews24.com: “Rashid Bhai was ill for a month. He had heart disease. I called your son this morning. So I wanted to talk to him. But he did not speak on the phone because he was ill.
“We were all at the janaza and the funeral of Abdur Rahman Bhai. An hour after returning from there, I learned that Rashid Bhai had died. “
Chandan Dhar, a member of the editorial board of the Nagar Awami League, told bdnews24.com: “They were slanderous brothers. He may not have accepted the death of his younger brother. ”
Rashid is a former Alkaran ward councilor. He is the father of two sons and one daughter.
MA Rashid, active in Nagar Awami League politics, was active in all movements, including the anti-authoritarian movement, the anti-BNP-Jamaat alliance movement.

Thousands of people, including party leaders and activists, took part in Abdur Rahman’s janaza that took place at the old train station around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
