It was learned that criminals tore apart Bangabandhu under construction at midnight on Friday, construction workers said Saturday afternoon. After learning of this incident, the police began monitoring all the sculptures in the district. Later in the evening, a mob attacked the BNP district office on NS Road in the city and destroyed it. Two rounds of bullets were fired at the shattered sculpture around 8:30 pm.

Around 9 pm, an agitated group vandalized the office and counter of SB Paribahan, owned by the brother of the Kushtia District BNP Secretary General Sohrab Uddin, at the city’s Mazampur gate. Two journalists also confessed to the attack when they went to take pictures.

According to municipal sources, in early November last year, the Kushtia municipality authorities demolished the shuffler’s sculptures at the city’s five-lane intersection at a cost of Tk 3 million and began construction of three Bangabandhu sculptures in the top of the four national leaders. Kushtia Municipality Mayor Anwar Ali said those who could not accept Bangabandhu, the opposition from the Awami League, are believed to have been responsible for the incident. The matter has been reported to the police. A case is also being filed in this regard.
