In Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhia upazila, an influential gang has inhumanly tortured a young man by shaving his head with a shovel for allegedly stealing cows. The incident took place around 10:30 pm on Friday (September 26) in the West Sonarpara area of the Jaliapalang Union of Ukhia in Cox’s Bazar. The victim was identified as Syed Ahmad, son of Zakir Hossain from the West Sonarpara area of the Jaliapalang union in Ukhia upazila.
He was beheaded on Saturday morning after being tortured overnight. The torturer, local Jalal Ahmed, took photos and videos on his mobile phone during the torture and then spread them through social media.
Jobaida Begum, Syed Ahmed’s sister, has filed a complaint with the Ukhia Police Station accusing four people, including Jalal Ahmed.
Zobaida Begum said that Jalal Ahmed, son of local Shamsul Alam, took my brother Syed Ahmed from Sonarpara Bazar without any crime and tortured him for stealing cows. She tied a rope to a tree in the backyard all night, wore a shoe garland around her neck, and shaved her head with a shovel. Later she hit the bald head with a shovel. When my brother lost consciousness in the incident, the local UP member, Mohammad Rafiq, rescued him from the scene and sent him to hospital.
Zobaida Begum said: “My brother, who was tortured, is now seriously ill.” She is under treatment at Ukhia Health Complex Hospital. His nose and mouth are bleeding profusely. For this reason, I have lodged a written complaint with the Ukhia Police Station accusing four people, including the accused Jalal Ahmed, of seeking a fair trial. Jalal Ahmed is charged in many cases, including human trafficking. Jalal Ahmed got back into the yaba business as human trafficking stopped today. News of his misdeeds told the police that my brother was tortured on suspicion of stealing cows.
Mohammad Rafique, a member of Local UP, said that the victim, Syed Ahmed, was a local businessman. Jalal Ahmed grabbed him from the market and tied him up for stealing cattle. He was also beaten. The supposedly stolen cow was in the owner’s house. However, legal action must be taken if you are found guilty. But the beating was not correct. That torture is inhuman.
In this regard, said Jalal Ahmed, this has been done to educate the entire area so that cow theft does not happen again in the area.
Jaliapalang UP President Nurul Amin Chowdhury said the abused boy was a small businessman. I learned that he was not involved in the robbery. The young man’s family had a conflict with the perpetrator. There have been nasty incidents of revenge.
Ukhia police officer OC Mohammad Manzur Morshed said: “I have only joined this police station.” The complaint has not yet reached me. Necessary action will be taken after the investigation if any complaints are received.
