‘After a while I received the news that my son’s body was lying under the bridge’

Police have recovered the body of a young man named Redwan Ahmed Khan Legion (28) from under a bridge in Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj.

The body was recovered under the Madale Bridge in front of the village of Panahar on the Kishoreganj-Marichkhali road at the Joyka junction of the Upazila around 1pm on Friday. Lijan Khan is the son of the late Aminul Islam Khan from the village of Gundhar. He is the youngest of three brothers and two sisters and is not married.

According to the police and eyewitness sources, the locals reported to the Karimganj police station after seeing the body of the young man lying under the Madal bridge in the morning. The police went there and recovered the body. A pair of sandals, three plastic bottles (cold drinks) and a mobile phone were recovered from the body of the murdered Legion. The recovered mobile phone belonged to Legion Khan, police said. The victim had small bruises on his head.

According to members of his family, Lijan Khan used to work in a shoe factory in Nawabganj, Dhaka. He returned home from Dhaka on Thursday afternoon.

Legion’s older sister, Mission, and her mother, Rubia Akhter, told Naya Digant that Legion had fallen asleep in her bungalow around 10pm after coming from Dhaka and hanging out with friends. After 10 to 20 minutes of sleep, someone called him again and took him from home.

Mother Rubia Akhter said: ‘I went to the Bengali house around 7 in the morning and saw that there was no legion. I thought I might have slept at a friend’s house at night. Meanwhile, I received the news from the neighbors that the body of a young man was lying under the Madal bridge. After a while I received the news that the body belonged to me.

Legion’s sister, Mission, said: ‘My brother didn’t fight anyone. She called my brother at night, took her away, and killed her. The killer will only be known if the police check the phone. We think he was beaten up by some of his friends.

Karimganj Police Station, OC Mohammad Mominul Islam, said: “We still have no idea whether this is a murder or an unnatural death. The empty bottle between the three is believed to be a pesticide or something. The corpse’s chest, the black spots on its abdomen, look like lightning bolts. The head wound looks like a brick wound.

Around 1:15 pm, the OC said: ‘The body is being sent to Kishoreganj Hospital morgue for autopsy. It is being investigated if it is a murder or something else.
