After being closed for nine hours due to thick fog, ferry service on the Paturia-Daulatdia waterway resumed at 9 a.m. Thursday.
Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BIWTC) has suspended ferry service from 12 noon today to prevent accidents on the waterways.
Salam Hossain, trade manager at BIWTC Aricha office, told The Daily Star: When the fog cleared, the ferry service started from 9am.
There are 16 ferries operating on the waterway, he added.
More than 500 vehicles, including freight trucks and passenger buses, have been stranded in the Paturia Ghat area due to the closure of ferry services for a long time.
BIWTC officials said that perishable, emergency and passenger vehicles will cross with priority and that vans covered by cargo trucks will cross in phases later.
Due to heavy fog for the past five days, ferry service on this waterway has been interrupted. Passengers and vehicle workers trapped in the ghat area for a long time suffer greatly.
