An 18-year-old girl with an intellectual disability was reportedly raped in Palash upazila of Narsingdi. The girl is known to have been raped on Friday night. Toukir Sarkar, who was arrested in the incident, was sent to jail through court on Saturday afternoon.
The arrested Taukir Sarkar (21) is a resident of the Majherchar area of the Gazaria Upazila union.
The victim’s relatives said that yesterday the girl was alone in her house. Late at night, Touki and some of his friends were guarding the house, entered the girl’s house and raped her. At that moment, Cousin Naim came out of the next room and grabbed Taukir. When later informed, the police arrived, arrested Taukir and took him to the police station.
That same night, the girl’s mother filed a case against defendant Taukir under the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children Act at the Palash Police Station.
Palash Police Officer in Charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad. Nasir Uddin said: ‘The young accused has been arrested in this incident. He was sent to jail by the court this afternoon.
