Mahbubur Rahman, who was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity in 1971, died in Kashimpur prison in Gazipur. When his condition deteriorated on Friday morning, he was rushed to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur, where he died.
He is the son of the late Maulana Abdul Adud from Baimhati village in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail. He was 72 years old. During the liberation war, he killed Randa Prasad Saha, the founder of Kumudini Welfare Trust of Bengal Limited, and his son Bhabani Prasad Saha Robi, Gaur Gopal Saha, a close companion of Randa, Rakhal Matlab, and Randa Prasad Saha’s keeper. Furthermore, during the liberation war, Mahbubur Rahman carried out a genocide in Baimhati, Postkamuri, Mirzapur, Sarishadair, the Andhra area around Bharateshwari Homes in Mirzapur, Kumudini Welfare Trust in Khanpur of Narayanganj and its surroundings and other areas such as Tangail Circuit House.
Mahbubur Rahman was once a Jamaat-e-Islami politician. He contested the Mirzapur Sadar Union and later in the municipal elections three times as a non-partisan candidate and lost.
Mahbubur Rahman was arrested on November 8 of the same year after the court issued an injunction following the investigation of the case brought against him on April 17, 2016. On February 11, 2016, the court learned of the charges against you.
