He also said the allegations made in the letter were unfounded.
Forty-two citizens have asked the president to investigate allegations of financial irregularities, corruption, and serious financial misconduct against the Electoral Commission. The letter was sent to the president on December 14, said a virtual press conference on Saturday.
Shahadat Hossain told reporters in his office in the electoral building on Sunday afternoon: “Maybe he is motivated and I don’t think any of that is based.” Introducing such a topic, I think is not a consideration for supporters.
“The most painful thing is that they accused us. At the same time, they complained to His Excellency the President and again accused us. Not only that, what we have to do, the punishment, he also gave it in a sense. “
He said that such statements by eminent persons were unfounded and disregarded.
In response to a question, the Electoral Commissioner said: “I have given you the responsibility to consider whether it is considered prudent or unethical. Other than this, since I have presented it to the President, I do not want to say more.”
He said the president would decide on the accusations of prominent people.
Shahadat said: “This is my personal response, not the commission’s response. I think there should be some decency when it comes to eminent citizens.” I hope you take your message. At the same time, compatriots will also get the message. I want my speech to be polite, that’s enough. “
The letter was sent to the president on behalf of 42 citizens by Supreme Court attorney Shahdin Malik, who was once an attorney for the EC.
Signatories to the letter include Professor Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, retired Secretary Akbar Ali Khan, who has served as an advisor to several interim governments, retired Auditor General M Hafizuddin Khan, human rights activist Sultana Kamal and educator Rasheda K Chowdhury.
In the letter, a request was made to form a Supreme Judicial Council in accordance with article 96 of the Constitution of Bangladesh to investigate the charges against this constitutional body.
