A month after the incident of torture of a woman in Noakhali’s Begumganj Upazila by stripping her naked, when video of the incident was released on social media, RAB police have started various activities, including rescuing the victim and arresting suspects.
Noakhali District Police Superintendent Md Alamgir Hossain told the BBC that the victim had told police that she could protect her dignity even in the face of torture.
Describing the victim, Alamgir Hossain said: “We questioned the victim more than once. She said they had tried very hard. But I was able to protect my dignity. But they made this video. Even after this incident, they repeatedly offered me that if I did this, I would leak the video. And they finally released the video. ‘
He said it came to the attention of the police through the video released after so many days of the incident.
He said the video, which was released on social media Sunday afternoon, caught his attention. Based on that video, they first tried to find the scene and the victim.
Alamgir Hossain further said that after searching for two to three hours at the scene and possible locations in the area, the victim could not be found. They can eventually rescue the affected woman from a housing area in Noakhali Sadar. He noted that the victim was mentally disturbed at the time.
Police Superintendent Alamgir Hossain said the victim was first advised to recover from the trauma. Then when an environment is created, they learn about the incident directly from the victim.
According to the information or description provided by him, the incident took place a month ago, that is, just before the evening prayers on September 2. He was tempted before, he was offered wrong, he did not agree to that. Then those who are this calprit in the area, break the weak door of the tin house on the outside and enter on the inside. According to Police Superintendent Md Alamgir Hossain, the defendant videotaped the incident on social media more than once, threatening to spread it on social media. Furthermore, the victim did not inform the police about the various threats.
He said that two cases have now been filed based on the victim’s description.
A lawsuit has been filed under the Pornography Control Act to make the video viral. Another case has been registered under the Violence Against Women Prevention Act and various sections of the Penal Code for attempted rape.
The police superintendent said the victim was physically abused, beaten and attempted rape. His genitals were also injured. These accusations have been made in the case.
He noted that the 9 people who were seen in the video and identified the victims have been charged. Four of them have already been arrested. The police-RAB and intelligence agencies are working to catch the rest.
