A woman is on hunger strike at the home of a young Italian expatriate demanding marriage in Shariatpur Sadar Upazila. The woman had been fasting in front of the young man’s house since Friday morning. The name of the young expat is Nurul Haque Bepari (28). His home is in Dantpur Uttarbhashan Char village of Angaria Union of Sadar upazila. Earlier, the woman went to Nurul Haque’s house three times.
According to Nurul Haque’s family sources, Nurul Haque went to Jordan in 2010 in search of work. Then head to Libya from there. She migrated from Libya to Italy in June 2020. Speaking with the woman, it became known that the house of Nurul Haque’s sister’s father-in-law, Sabina, is in the Shalal Bazar area of the Naria municipality. The woman lives in the same area. Sabina developed a friendly relationship with that woman. In September 2019, while Nurul Haque was in Libya, her sister Sabina used to talk to Nurul Haque in a video call on the woman’s mobile phone emu. At that time the woman used to have occasional conversations with Nurul Haque. As they talked, they first became friends and then fell in love.
The woman said, “I got married on July 17, 2011 in Naria Bijhari Kandapara village.” The husband lives in Greece. We have a nine year old boy. The boy is in second grade at a local elementary school. Nurul Haque assured me that she would marry me if I divorced my husband. So I divorced my husband. We both knew the matter. Suddenly one day Nurul Haque spoke to me on the phone about marriage. And he gives the address of his town. I go to his house, I meet everyone in the family. He asked me to go with his brother Aminul Haque Bepari by phone with the birth registration, two copies of photographs and five lakhs. I went to Sadar’s Angaria Bazaar and gave them to Aminul’s shop. Then I spoke to Nurul Haque on my mobile and signed a form. After a few days, if Nurul Haque wants to go down to the cabin, he will get it in three months.
He further said, Nurul wants 6 lakh rupees from me to buy land again. I pay 3 lakh 75 lakhs in two installments. I went to Aminul’s store and brought the money. If you want to get out of the hut again, now Nurul Haque and his family are saying, who are you? I do not know you. They don’t know me. Now Nurul Haque from Italy has stopped all communication. I was forced to go to his house to establish my rights.
“Before that, I came to Nurul Haque’s house on February 16,” he said. Later, his brother Aminul, his sister Tanjila and several others beat me. I was admitted to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital. Later I made a complaint because there was a spinning model in Sadar.
Nurul Haque’s sister, Tanjila, said that the woman used to talk to my brother on a mobile phone. He told his brother that he was not married. Now I know that she is married. There is also a boy. That woman cheated on my brother. Now he has come to our house. He says that he will marry his brother. We told you to go to Italy if you get married.
Angaria Union Parishad (UP) president Anwar Hossain Hawlader said: “No one informed me about this.” If someone complains, our Union Parishad could try to resolve the matter through the people’s court.
Shariatpur Sadar Palang Model Police Officer in Charge (OC) said. Aslam Uddin said, no one informed me about the hunger strike. I am seeing the matter with the news. We have to analyze the matter of the previous complaint.
