The Anti-Corruption Commission will appeal to the High Court to instruct the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest Prashant Kumar (PK) Haldar, former managing director of NRB Global Bank, who left the country despite a judicial ban, through Interpol. At the same time, charges of contempt of court will be brought against interested persons, including PK Haldar. The ACC is taking this legal step as it did not return to the country on the scheduled day and time, even after obtaining permission from the Superior Court to return to the country. Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan, a lawyer for the company, gave this information on Sunday.
The ACC has brought a case against PK Haldar for allegedly acquiring illegal assets worth around Tk 265 crore. He was also Managing Director of International Leasing and Financial Services Limited (ILFSL). He fled abroad earlier this year after looting millions of rupees from customers. He was later removed from the organization. He later contacted ILFSL to say that the money had been recovered.
ILFSL, a non-bank financial institution, filed a request on September 8 seeking instructions from the Superior Court to allow PK Haldar to return home safely and into the custody of the court. On October 21, the court ordered the arrest of PK Haldar as soon as he set foot in the country’s airports. But he did not return to the country on the appointed day. He told ILFSL last Friday that he was suffering from corona symptoms. Because of this, he cannot return to the country. The next date and time of return to the country will be informed later. ILFSL delivered a copy of the letter to the ACC and the Attorney General’s Office on Saturday through its attorney, Barrister Mahfuzur Rahman Milon.
ILFSL’s attorney, Barrister Mahfuzur Rahman Milon, told Kaler Kanth yesterday that the matter would be brought before the court if the High Court is opened.
Attorney General AM Amin Uddin said that a fugitive could not obtain any legal benefits before surrendering. If he (PK Haldar) gives false information, the court will take action against him. He said he did not know if PK Haldar was ill. You will be arrested as soon as you land at the airport as you have a Superior Court warrant and an arrest warrant.
ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told Kaler Kanth: “I received a letter from the ILFSL. But there is no evidence that he is ill. Giving this letter amounts to contempt of court.
