Instead of building sculptures, scholars have suggested building a ‘Mujib Minar’ inscribed with 99 names of Allah in the name of Bangabandhu or finding a ‘good alternative’ backed by the Quran and Sunnah.

Maulana Mahfuzul Haque, Befaq’s acting secretary general, made the remarks after a meeting of top academics at Jatrabari Madrasa in the capital on Saturday (December 5).

Maulana Mahfuzul Haque told a press conference that making human figures or sculptures for any purpose is strictly prohibited in the eyes of Islam. In the country of 92% Muslims, in light of the faith and conscience of the people, it is better to look for an alternative better supported by the Quran and Sunnah.

What is alternative thinking? In response to reporters’ question, he said that a proposal has been made to build the Mujib Minar with 99 names of Allah. However, he also said that Mujib Minar was not mentioned in the five-point proposal.

The best academic representatives of the country presented various proposals at the meeting. Subsequently, the 5-point proposal was approved with the consent of all.

He raised objections to various topics, including the construction of sculptures, the limited use of microphones in Waz mahfil, and insults against scholars.

Among the main scholars present at the meeting were Mufti Jasimuddin, representative of Hathazari Madrasa, Mufti Muhammad Waqqas, representative of Allama Abdul Halim Bokhari, Maulana Abu Taher Nadvi, Mufti Ruhul Amin, Mufti Syed Faizul Karim, Allama Nullam, Allamaul Islam, Allama Nullam. Hussain Qasemi’s representatives are Maulana Nazmul Hasan, Allama Ataullah Hafezji, Mufti Mansurul Haque, Allama Sajidur Rahman, Maulana Abdul Matin bin Hussain, Maulana Musleh Uddin Raju, Maulana Mahfuzul Haq, Maulana Ufaidur Rahman Saudae, and others.
