The Nationalist Lawyers Unit Panel won the Bogra District Bar Association election.
Out of 13 seats, the candidates on this pro-BNP panel have won 6 of them, including the president and secretary general.
Lawyer Binoy Kumar Ghosh Rajat, a returning official from the Election Management Committee, announced the results late Friday.
The returning officer’s deputy defender, Palash Khandaker, said Shafiqul Islam Tuku of the Nationalist Lawyers Unit Panel became president with 363 votes.
His closest rival, Golam Farooq from Bangabandhu Awami Bar and the Grand Alliance panel, garnered 272 votes. Saiful Islam Paltu, from the other panel of the Democratic Lawyers Association, got 33 votes.
Rafiqul Islam (1) of the Nationalist Lawyers Unit Panel became secretary general again with 346 votes. His closest Bangabandhu Awami bar council and Grand Alliance panelist Tabibur Rahman Tabi got 16 votes.
Other members of the Nationalist Lawyers Unit Panel are Masfiqur Rahman as vice chairman, Mahfuzar Rahman Masud and Sirajul Haque as deputy secretaries, Mahbuba Khatun Sukhi as library and social welfare secretary, and Zahurul Islam Zia and Shipon Khatun as executive members.
Other elected members of the Bangabandhu Awami Bar Council and the Grand Alliance panel are Habibur Rahman (3), Vice President, Reazul Jannat Prince, editor of magazines, sports and culture, and Baby Khatun, Mita Khatun and Rakibul Islam as executive members .
The vote took place in a quiet and festive atmosphere at the Gowhar Ali Bhaban of the Bogra Bar Association from 8 am to 1 pm on Friday.
Out of a total of 720 voters, 695 cast their votes. The results were announced at 10:30 p.m. after the vote.
