Samia Rahman, a professor in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Dhaka University, who was demoted on charges of plagiarism in the investigation, posted a status on social media Facebook on Tuesday (March 2), a day after the Press conference.
He complained in the state that a high ranking powerful woman from Dhaka University had taken revenge to destroy him. However, he did not mention the woman’s name.
Samia Rahman wrote on Facebook: “She (the powerful woman) is now terribly vindictive and yesterday she called journalists to provoke news against me. He says that Samia must be destroyed anyway. With any news, make it fake and whatever.
Samia further writes: ‘I heard from the journalists you called. He said, don’t borrow the false truth, Samia has to end at any cost. Any news must be made against Samia. If necessary, I have to prove all my articles for plagiarism. Because the position, the power is in his hands, if he says so, they will be accepted by the people. People will accept what journalists say. Anyway, Samia will not be allowed to stay. Samia has so much courage to hold a press conference against us! This time I will give him the last blow.
Samia Rahman further writes: ‘Why is he so mad, so mad at me? … was he the mastermind behind Alex Martin’s fake letter conspiracy? Trying to hit me one last time for fear of getting published? … Whoever is accused of plagiarism, out of fear of his power, no medium except 2/3 dares to cover it up, which in turn is associated with plagiarism, in at least 5/6 articles, how can he speak to others about morality? ‘
Earlier on Monday (March 1), at a press conference in the Sagar-Runi auditorium of the Dhaka Reporters Unit, Samia Rahman, associate professor in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, accused the University of Dhaka plagiarism.
“I am the victim of a conspiracy,” he said. They have made me a scapegoat. He said that in addition to asking the Acharya and the president to reveal the real truth, he is also in the process of taking legal action.
Samia Rahman said: ‘In November 2016, the Dean’s Office called and said that the article jointly submitted by you and Syed Mahfuzul Haque Marjan could not be found. I was very surprised to hear this. Because I haven’t sent any writing to the dean’s office lately. I also have proof in this regard.
Referring to the matter as a ‘conspiracy’, Samia Rahman pointed out that some people from the university administration and some professors were involved in it. However, he asked journalists to find out the names of the culprits.
On January 26, university authorities demoted Samia Rahman, associate professor in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, and Syed Mahfuzul Haque Marjan, professor in the Department of Criminology, for plagiarism in academic research. Muhammad Omar Farooq, an assistant professor in the Department of Islamic History and Culture, also received the same punishment for plagiarism in his doctoral research.
