The body of the young man lay on the floor of a room in the house. Next to him was an 18-year-old girl. He had a blade wound on his left hand. Police recovered the body of a young man from a house in the Pathantula Nikunj residential area of the city of Sylhet on Saturday afternoon. The girl was also rescued at that time.
In the afternoon, the young man’s family filed a complaint for incitement to suicide in the incident and the girl was arrested and sent to a safe home.
The young man’s name is Miftahur Rahman. He is the son of Matiur Rahman from Kadamtali village in the Jagdal junction of Dirai upazila of Sunamganj. According to the police, the girl had an affair with the young man. The girl went to the young man’s house on Friday night. The young man committed suicide by hanging himself in the morning after a fight between the two at night. The girl also tried to commit suicide by sitting next to the young man’s body. Knife wounds were found on his hand.
The young man’s uncle, Muhibur Rahman, said his nephew was home alone on Friday. Hearing the news around 11:30 am on Saturday, he went home and saw Miftahur Rahman’s frozen body lying on the floor of a room. The girl was in the next room. The girl told him that if there was a fight between the two at night, they would sleep in two separate rooms. In the morning, the girl saw Miftahur hanging by the neck and lowered him to the ground. He later attempted suicide by executing the sword himself.
