A review case has been filed in court challenging the validity of Sinha’s murder case

A review case has been filed challenging the validity of a murder case brought by his sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous for the murder of retired army major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan in a police shootout. The case was brought to the Cox’s Bazar District and Session Judges Court on Sunday afternoon on behalf of the dismissed Inspector Liakat Ali from the Baharchhara Police Investigation Center in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

Faridul Alam, a prosecutor for the Cox’s Bazar District and Session Judges Court, said Judge Mohammad Ismail accepted the case and set the hearing for October 20.

Liaquat’s lawyer, Farhan Shahriar, said the review case was filed in the Cox’s Bazar Magistrates Court on Aug. 5 challenging the validity of the murder case brought by Major Sinha’s sister, Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous. After Sinha’s death, the police filed two more cases shortly after the incident.

Retired Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was shot dead by Inspector Liaquat Ali at the Shamlapur checkpoint on Marine Drive Road in Teknaf the night before Eid-ul-Azha on July 31. Sinha’s sister, Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, filed a case against the nine in Cox’s Bazar court on August 5. The RAB was given the responsibility of investigating the case. On August 8, the police officer in charge of Teknaf (OC) Pradeep Kumar Das, seven policemen, including the then inspector in charge of the Baharchhara police investigation center, Liaquat Ali, surrendered to the court. Subsequently, the RAB arrested three members of the APBN, three witnesses in the case brought up by the police and, more recently, a police officer in the case of Sinha’s murder. There are now 14 defendants in this case. Twelve defendants, including defendant No. 1 Liaquat Ali, have so far given confessional statements under article 164 in court. OC Pradeep Kumar Das and the last arrested officer Rubel Sharma have not yet testified. Tamanna Farah, Cox’s Bazar Chief Judge, granted defendant Rubel Sharma a seven-day pretrial detention at noon on September 30.
