The police claimed that their former gardener had attacked the Upazila Nirbahi (UNO) officer in Ghoraghat.
Rangpur Range DIG Devdas Bhattacharya told a news conference on Saturday that Rabiul Islam Faras, a former UN gardener, had confessed to being involved in the attack.
According to him, the police have recovered the ladder and the hammer used in the attack.
The police also arrested Nazim Hasan Palash, the house’s night watchman. Although Rabiul Islam was placed in pre-trial detention, no pre-trial detention was requested for Nazim Hasan.
Earlier, after arresting three people, including a local Juba League leader, in the incident, the RAB had confessed that they had entered the home and carried out the attack with the intent to rob.
At the time, RAB-13 commander Reza Ahmed Ferdous said that Asadul had told them during questioning that Nabirul was the mastermind behind the incident. He also admitted during questioning that the person seen in the CCTV footage was Nabirul.
Reacting angrily to the incident, the Bangladesh Administration Services Association said it did not believe it was a robbery.
“The association thinks that this is not a robbery incident. Because the criminals did not steal any kind of thing or property. It is an incident of a planned attack and many more people may be involved in it.” Helaluddin Ahmed, president of the association and chief secretary of the local government department, said in a written statement.
Later, after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order, the President and Minister of Liberation War Affairs, AQM Mozammel Haque, told reporters: “The robbery at the UN house was not credible for people. I have ordered the intelligence agency to further investigate the motive for his attack.
After that, the DB police began investigating the case.
A few days later, after the arrest of the owner of the UN office, the police said that this employee had carried out the attack on the UN.
When asked about different information between the police and the RAB, RAB-13 commander Reza Ahmed Ferdous said: “After the arrest, they made the confession on their own initiative. That was their statement. Even then we said, we have to give more time to know the real facts, we have to investigate. Now the police are investigating and that is exactly what they found. “
So the attack
Ghoraghat Upazila, UNO executive officer Wahida Khanam, and her father were attacked on the second night of September.
Citing police officers as the motive for the attack, local journalist Kankar Karmakar said that Rabiul was accused of stealing Rs 40,000-50,000 from a UNO bag four months ago.
After identifying him after viewing CCTV footage of the incident, he was suspended and a departmental case was filed against him.
Police initially learned that Rabiul was angry with UNO for the incident and therefore carried out the attack.
ONE Waheeda Khanam is safe
Wahida Khanam, an official from Upazila Nirbahi (UN), is now safe, the doctor said. However, the decision to move it to the cabin has not yet been made.
Jahed Hossain, head of the medical board set up to treat UNO Waheeda, said Saturday morning that his head had been cut off after his face.
” ‘The situation is a little better than before. Its complexity is cut. He said his right side was numb. But now he can move the finger of his right hand. “
“With physical therapy, his condition can return to normal. He can eat solid food,” he told the BBC.
