He said work on the ‘One Country, One Ration’ project would start from August across the country and will be completed in March of next year. As a result, a consumer will be able to buy food grains at ration shops anywhere in the country at a subsidized price set by the government. All the information of the ration card in the country will be stored in a single server to guarantee this project.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today announced a total of nine steps for farmers, street vendors and migrant workers, sitting next to State Minister Anurag Tagore. Three of these packages were for migrant workers. The finance minister said the “One Nation, One Ration Card” project allows migrant workers to buy food anywhere in the country. The central government will spend ₹ 3,500 crore on the project for some 6 million migrant workers. Sitaraman added: “Migrant workers will receive free food for the next two months. Those without the card will also receive 5 kg of rice or wheat and 1 kg of legumes per head.
Union ministers also announced that small houses for workers would be built through the Prime Minister’s Housing Plan. Sitaraman said: “Migrant workers can stay in that house for very little money.” Sitharaman urged states to ensure that migrant workers return to their respective states to participate in the 100-day work. Meanwhile, he also announced that he will increase wages for 100 days of work from Tk 182 to Tk 202.
