According to the details of the case, Ratna Khatun (18), a person with speech problems, was working in a house in the Salta village of Sadar upazila. That is the source of his relationship with Habibur. On May 26, 2016, Habibur and Montu from the same town called and took Ratna away. Three days later, on May 31, Ratna’s body was found in the Mej Mollah cemetery in the village. Upon receiving the news, the Phulbari camp police recovered the body from there and sent it to the 250-bed Jessore General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Ratna’s father went to the Shahar Ali Sheikh Police Station to present a case, but the police did not accept him. Then, on June 14 of that year, he filed a case against Habibur Rahman Khan and Montu. Later, by court order, it was registered as a regular case at the Kotwali Police Station on July 2. The police arrested Habibur. In court, he made a confessional statement about the murder after raping Ratna. After the investigation, the police brought an accusation against Habibur Rahman Khan, Montu and Iqbal Hossain from the same area.

Asaduzzaman said that after the accusations against Habibur were proven, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment and a one lakh rupee fine, one more year in rigorous prison for non-payment. The court acquitted the other two defendants because the charges against them were not proven.
