A London court has ruled that Assange should not be turned over to the United States.

A London court has ordered that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange not be extradited to the United States.

The judge ruled on Monday that Assange was at risk of suicide considering his mental health.

Citing signs of Assange’s self-harm and suicidal thoughts, District Judge Vanessa Barrader of the Old Bailey Court in London said none of this was a sign of a man suffering from depression and, at times, frustrated with his future.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been a political asylum seeker at the Ecuadorian embassy in London since June 2012. He was under house arrest inside the embassy. In 2019, Ecuador handed him over to the British police. Since then, Britain has kept him in the infamous Belmarsh Prison.

In 2010, Julian Assange, an Australian citizen, caused a stir around the world by leaking millions of US military and diplomatic secrets.

Since then, the United States has filed 18 lawsuits against Assange, including hacking the government and violating espionage laws.

After taking Assange into the custody of the Ecuadorian embassy, British police said they were acting at the request of the United States.
