A jute mill will be put into operation shortly under lease: jute minister

Jute and Textile Minister Golam Dastagir Ghazi said the closed jute factories will soon reopen on a lease basis. Now the jute mills are sitting. When the jute factories are started, the workers will no longer be unemployed. He told reporters after an exchange of views with officials from the Rajshahi Silk Development Board on Sunday afternoon.

Regarding the development of the silk industry, Jute Minister Golam Dastagir said: “We are working on how to improve the quality of silk by reducing the cost of production.” There is a question of research on the one hand, there is a question of our management on the other. Well covered, it will withstand a host of harsh conditions. And if we can reduce the cost of production, ordinary people will be able to buy silk.

In the evening, the Minister formally inaugurated cloth production at the Rajshahi silk factory. Now a total of 19 looms will be used to make garments at the factory. It will be possible to manufacture 25 to 26 thousand meters of silk fabric per year.

During the official opening of the silk factory, Fazle Hossain Badsha, MP of the Rajshahi-2 (Sadar) constituency and vice chair of the Bangladesh Silk Development Board, Adiba Anjum Mita, MP of the reserved seat for women, secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute Md. Present were Lokman Hossain Mia, the Director General of the Silk Development Board, Muhammad Abdul Hakim, and others. After inaugurating the textile production activities at the silk factory, the Minister visited the sales center of the silk factory.

According to sources from Rajshahi Silk Factory, in 1971 a silk factory was established on 15 and a half bighas of land in the Shiroil bus terminal area in Rajshahi city. In 2002, the then government closed the factory. As a result, some 300 factory workers were unemployed. Deputy Fazle Hossain took the initiative to start the factory after assuming the position of vice president of the silk board. On May 26, 2016, five looms were experimentally launched from the factory. Then 14 more looms were introduced experimentally. The Minister inaugurated these looms on the occasion of the Mujib Year. The factory plans to launch 23 more looms in phases.
