A mobile court has fined the Awami League nominated mayoral candidate Rezaul Kabir Chowdhury 5,000 tk for violating the code of conduct in the Najipur Township elections in Naogaon’s Patnitala upazila. The Deputy Commissioner for Administration of Patnitala Upazila (Lands) and Executive Magistrate Sanjida Sultana handed down the sentence on Tuesday afternoon.
Zahidur Rahman, Nazipur Township Deputy Voting Officer and Patnitala Upazila Election Officer, said that according to the electoral code of conduct, candidates are not allowed to hold any kind of confrontation, procession or public gathering. But the Awami League candidate, Rezaul Kabir Chowdhury, violated the electoral rules in the Nazipur municipality elections and pulled a procession with thousands of motorcycles from the Nazipur bus stop at the C&B ground around 11 a.m. today. Upon hearing the news of the motorcycle confrontation, Deputy Commissioner (Land) Sanjida Sultana went to the scene with the police. The Awami League candidate, Rezaul Kabir Chowdhury, was fined 5,000 Tk for uncovering the truth of the incident.
Nazipur Township Elections will be held on January 18. Two people dispute the position of mayor of this municipality. They are Awami League nominee Rezaul Kabir Chowdhury and BNP candidate Anwar Hossain. The total number of voters in this municipality is 18,908.
