A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the beating and burning of a man named Abu Yunus Mohammad Shahidunnabi, 50, in Burimari in Lalmonirhat. Deputy Commissioner Abu Jafar confirmed that the committee was formed on Friday (October 30) morning with the additional district magistrate at the helm.

He said: ‘An investigative committee has been formed to uncover the actual incident. Legal action will be taken against those responsible.

Lalmonirhat Additional Police Superintendent Rabiul Islam said police visited the site and collected evidence. Other agencies, including the CID, are investigating the incident. Preparations are under way to present multiple cases in this regard.

The deceased is known to have been identified as Abu Yunus Mohammad Shahidunnabi, son of the late Abu Wazed Miah of Shalban Mistry Para in the city of Rangpur. He is a former Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College librarian. Another man named Sultan Jobayer Abbas (45) was injured in the incident. He is the son of Sheikh Abbas Ali from the same area, a document writer by profession.

According to police and local sources, Abu Yunus Mohammad Shahidunnabi and Sultan Jobayer Abbas greeted and shook hands with mosque caretaker Jubed Ali, 60, on Thursday after Asr prayers at Burimari Central Jame Mosque in Patgram. . He then searched the mosque shelf for the Koran and Hadith, claiming that there were weapons there. At that time, 5-6 worshipers, including local Abul Hossain (Hossain Decorator) in the courtyard of the mosque, beat them both. Upon receiving the news, Hafizul Islam, a member of the UP of Burimari Union Parishad ward number one, took them out of there and locked them in a room at the Union Parishad. Meanwhile, rumors spread of insulting the Qur’an. After that, the agitated people gathered at the Burimari Union Parishad premises, smashed the windows and doors and entered and beat them. Shahidunnabi died there. His body was taken from the Union Parishad facilities and burned on the Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway. Another survived the police intervention.
