A child stolen from the hospital is alive, the body of another is recovered

Salanga Police Station OC Abdul Quader Jilani said a 25-year-old woman named Kalpana Khatun was arrested and five women were detained for questioning.

He said the two children were rescued alive and dead from a house in the town of Alokdia in Ullapara upazila around 10:30 pm on Saturday. Kalpana, Saddam’s wife, was arrested in the town of Alokdia.

Newborn stolen from hospital in Sirajganj again

The deceased was identified as Mahim, son of Choyan Islam and Manjuara from the village of Vadalia under Ullapara upazila. The surviving child Samiul is the son of Abdul Majed and Sabita Khatun from the village of Sthal in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna.

23-year-old Mahim, who was taken to the children’s ward of the 250-bed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital in Sirajganj for treatment, was abducted Tuesday afternoon. Exactly five days later, a one-day-old baby named Samiul was also stolen from Shakhawat H Memorial Hospital in Hatikumrul Golchatbar on Saturday afternoon.

OC Abdul Quader Jilani said they visited the site on Saturday after the newborn was stolen from Shakhawat H Memorial Hospital. After looking at CCTV footage from the hospital and reviewing various aspects of the incident, they raided Saddam Hussein’s home in Alokdia village around 10:30 pm.

There, the newborn baby was found on the lap of Saddam’s wife, Kalpana, and was rescued. After searching the house, the body of another boy named Mahim was found in a rice field. Kalpana was arrested at the time and five other women were arrested and taken to the police station.
