A girl named Pia (10) died after being vaccinated against measles and rubella in Ghatail upazila of Tangail.

The incident took place in Ganjana village on Monday (January 4) morning. The deceased was identified as Bahaj Uddin from Ganjana village under the Deopara union of Pia upazila.

According to sources from the Upazila Health Complex, the vaccination campaign against measles and rubella received from the World Health Organization will begin from December 16 and will continue until January 24. Children from nine months to ten years will be vaccinated.

But Farman, the brother of the murdered colleague, said his sister was 10 years and 5 months old. In the morning, Pia was playing with her friends next to the house. Without telling anyone, she went to the Ganjana Surya Hasi Clinic with other children to get vaccinated. On the way to the vaccine, he turned his head and fell onto the road. Later he returned home to his sick companions. When his condition deteriorated, his family members took him to the Sikdar Medical Hall pharmacy in Dhalapara. There he saw a health aide named Saikat and gave him an injection. Then the situation deteriorated further. He died on the way to the Ghatail Upazila Health Complex.

Beach, a health aide who works at the pharmacy, said the patient’s condition was much worse. So the dexamethasone injection is pus. It is given to prevent the side effects of any other medicine. And that girl was already having difficulty breathing, she came to receive treatment.

Monowara Sultana, a field supervisor for the Ghatail Upazila Health Complex, who is in charge of monitoring vaccination activities in the area, said the child was healthy and normal after vaccination.

Speaking with the boy’s parents, it was learned that he had a respiratory disease. The exact cause of death will be known through investigation. The family assures that the age of the deceased is greater than ten years, when asked if there is a problem in this case, he said, age is not a problem.

A seven-member research committee has been formed, including a representative from the World Health Organization. It will check if there are any problems in the vaccine.

UN Anjan Kumar Sarkar said it was a tragic incident. The government has provided Rs 20,000 to the family of the deceased for burial.
