A case of recovery of yaba and cannabis from a private clinic

The defendant in the drug recovery case. Asaduzzaman and Dr. Sumon Roy. Sumon Roy is the Deputy General Secretary of the Khulna District Branch of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad and the Public Relations and Advertising Secretary of the Khulna District Branch of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA). It is said that he owned a part of the clinic.

The room where the yaba and cannabis were recovered from the clinic belonged to Sumon Roy but he was not there during the operation. Sumon Roy has been shown as a fugitive in the case. Khulna District Administration Executive Magistrates Debashish Basak and SM Russell Islam sentenced Sumon Roy’s personal assistant to seven months in jail and fined him 500 Tk while using cannabis in the room.
According to the case statement, Sumon Roy and Asaduzzaman had stored yaba and cannabis for sale.

Ataur Rahman, Inspector (on duty) of the Khulna Narcotics Control Department, told Prothom Alo that Asaduzzaman was an identified drug dealer. Two cases have been brought against him under the Narcotics Control Act. He recently developed a close relationship with Sumon Roy. Asaduzzaman is believed to have run a drug business under the Sumon Roy umbrella.
