A mentally challenged Panchagarh woman gave birth to a child under the Karatoya bridge in Panchagarh district on Saturday afternoon. The 35-year-old woman gave birth to a beautiful girl without surgery or assistance. After the delivery, the woman was sitting under the bridge post and in excruciating pain. After a while, some people came to the river to collect stones. At that time some locals bought him food and water. They later informed the police. Police personnel and firefighters from Panchagarh Sadar rushed to the scene and rescued the woman and her son and admitted them to Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital.
Initially, the woman’s name was Lipi Akhter (35). The husband’s name is Manja Mia. Her husband’s house is in the Ramerdanga area of Panchagarh Township. Manja Mia is also a tramp. The woman has a mental illness for a long time. Since no one took responsibility for the maintenance, at one point he became a homeless man with a 4-year-old daughter. He has been begging in the city with his children. Roam the city. At night, she slept under the sheds in front of the shops in different parts of the city, including Bakultala.
Niranjan Sarkar, an officer from the Panchagarh Fire Service Station, said: “We rescued the mentally unbalanced woman and her son with the help of the police and admitted them to Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital.” Both the mother and the newborn are healthy.
Panchagarh Police Superintendent Mohammad Yusuf Ali said the woman was moaning in pain after giving birth under the bridge. But no one dared to rescue him and take him to the hospital. The locals informed the police about the matter. Later we rescued him with the help of firefighters and admitted him to the hospital. Initially, the police bear the cost of his treatment.
Panchagarh Sadar Upazila Nirbahi officer Arif Hossain said: “We have called the woman’s husband and her mother.” After treatment, the woman will remain in her custody. We will provide all kinds of cooperation on behalf of the upazila administration.
