Police have recovered an iron chest that weighs around 10 manas along with 5 lakh 62 lakhs

After arresting eight thieves in Jamalpur’s Bakshiganj upazila, the police recovered an iron box weighing around 10 pounds along with Tk 5 lakh 72 thousand in cash. The coffin was recovered from Suruzzaman’s house in Charkauria Daripara of the municipal city on Wednesday morning.

A 200-year-old iron chest is known to have been stolen from Jabed Ali’s home from Charkauria Daripara village in Bakshiganj upazila on Sunday. Following the incident, Bakshiganj Municipal Mayor Nazrul Islam Saudagar arrested Liton, Sujan, Fakir Ali, Sahi Uddin, Rubel, Rahman Ali, Billal and Rubel Mia from Daripara village and handed them over to the police.

According to the detainees’ confessions, the police recovered the stolen box from Suruzzaman’s home in Daripara village on Wednesday morning.

The ark was subsequently opened in the presence of Upazila Nirbahi (UN) Executive Magistrate and Officer Munmun Jahan Liza, Municipal Mayor Nazrul Islam Saudagar and journalists at the police station premises. Inside the ark were 5 lakh 72 lakhs, some old coins and property titles.

The Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Bakshiganj Police Station, Shafiqul Islam, confirmed the incident. “The money has been confiscated,” he said. Other goods have been returned to the owner of the chest. Action will be taken in accordance with the court’s decision regarding money.
