The largest number of newly infected people are migrant workers, 210 of whom are Bangladeshi.

According to the website of the Bahrain Ministry of Health, up to 2,921 people had been infected in the country until the year. Of these, more than 2,000 are migrant workers. However, the country’s state news agency GDN quoted Osama al-Absi, executive director of Bahrain’s Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), saying on Wednesday that 8 percent of people infected with the coronavirus in Bahrain they were migrant workers.
According to the Bangladeshi embassy in Bahrain and Bangladeshi expatriates, 218 Bangladeshis have been infected with the coronavirus in the country as of Thursday. This is the highest number among Asian countries.
Apart from 216 people in Bangladesh, more than 100 citizens of India, Pakistan and the Philippines are known to have been infected with coronavirus.
The sudden increase in migration among migrant workers has alarmed the Bahraini authorities. In this context, Bahrain’s Interior Minister, Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, met with the ambassadors of Bangladesh, Pakistan and the Philippines and the interim ambassadors of India in his office yesterday morning to discuss ways to prevent the infection among migrant workers. The meeting was attended by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, Abdul Latif Rashid bin Al Jayani.

As of Thursday, 2,991 people had been infected with a crown in Bahrain
Most of the victims are migrant workers.
Bangladeshis are the hardest hit workers in South Asia

After the meeting, Nazrul Islam, Bangladesh’s ambassador to Bahrain, told Prothom Alo that the two ministers discussed how to work in coordination with the embassies of the four countries to prevent the spread of the coronavirus among migrant workers. Bahrain’s two ministers have guaranteed equal access to health care for all, both at home and abroad.
The Bahrain police website has released the news of the meeting of the ambassadors of the four countries with the interior and foreign ministers. He says that migrant workers in Bahrain are quite full. In this way, the issue of rapid transmission between them has become clear. With this in mind, the Bahraini government has decided to change the housing system for migrant workers. Basically, the government of Bahrain, along with employers, wants to ensure that migrant workers are housed in a place where they do not have to stay in a small space. In addition, special requests have been made to the ambassadors of the four countries to make their citizens aware that migrant workers adhere to health standards.
In the wake of the coronavirus infection, employers keep some 11,000 migrant workers in quarantine and provide them with free food and medical treatment, GDN reported Wednesday. In this case, employers will provide the necessary assistance to the government.
The scope of general forgiveness is effective
The Bahraini government announced earlier this month that it would legalize some 55,000 migrant workers. However, the announcement says that those who went to Bahrain on a free visa will have the opportunity. Those who submit their application before December 31 will have the opportunity to be valid without any charge. Just as these workers will have the opportunity to legally work in Bahrain, they will be able to return to their home countries without fines. Irregular foreign workers or foreign workers whose work has expired can take advantage of the general exemption by applying for a flexible work permit issued by the LMRA. However, migrant workers facing lawsuits will not obtain this service. This means that those who stay in Bahrain on a tourist visa even after their visa expires or who are prohibited from traveling to Bahrain will not have that opportunity.
Citing the executive director of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority, Osama Al-Absir, GDN reported Wednesday that 13,264 migrant workers had requested a general amnesty until April 28. As a result, they will now be able to work in Bahrain as legal migrant workers for the next year.
According to diplomatic sources, a significant number of Bangladeshi citizens are among the new migrant workers who have been legalized again in Bahrain. Right now, about two lakhs of Bangladeshi workers are working in Bahrain. For various reasons, at least 50,000 of them have become irregular. Bangladeshi workers work primarily as construction workers, drivers, and cleaners. In addition, around 5,000 Bangladeshis also run small businesses.
