A man named Abdul Hamid (55) has been accused of raping his daughter-in-law in Singra, Natore. The victim filed a written complaint against her father-in-law at the Singra police station on Saturday night. According to the complaint, Abdul Hamid’s son Atiqul Islam married the woman about 3 years ago. Abdul Hamid had been proposing to his daughter-in-law since marriage. He tried to rape his daughter-in-law a year and a half ago. When the matter came to light, Abdul Hamid’s son Atiqul left with his wife. They have a son at home. About 6 months ago, Abdul Hamid brought them back home. On Friday afternoon, April 10, when no one was home, he raped his daughter-in-law with a sharp weapon. He ran away when the locals fled screaming. Meanwhile, when he wanted to file a complaint with the police station for trial, the village elders banned it. They said the trial would take place in rural Shalis. But after 15 days, the victim filed a complaint with the police without obtaining justice. Abdul Hamid disappeared from the village due to lack of arbitration. The victim was unable to go to the police station to file a complaint for fear of rural matabars. Upon receiving the news, local journalists went to the scene and the victim and her family members told the details to the journalists and came to the police station to file a complaint.
