A written notice signed by the factory’s general manager said that due to Corona’s situation, the company has stopped producing all of its export products and all orders from international buyers have also been canceled. In this context, the dismissal of the factory was declared from April 1 to May 30 (in accordance with sections 12 and 16 of the Bangladesh Labor Law of 2006). In this situation, the employees were fired from April 18. Subject to the opening of the government postal department, letters will be sent to the permanent addresses of the dismissed employees. Subject to the normalization of the situation, the dismissed workers, employees and officials will receive their legal fees through Trust Bank as their personal bank before May 8.
Several workers, including Sobha, Monowara, Samshunnahar, Fatema, Ashraful Islam and Shafiqul Islam, said they were shocked and surprised by the owner’s announcement of a layoff without any discussion with the workers. As a result, more than a thousand factory workers have become unemployed. In addition, the factory workers are owed other subsidies, including arrears for the past two months. As a result, workers will face big problems. The owner might not have made that decision if he had paid the government incentives at the factory. The workers blamed the administration for interfering in the matter.
During this time, many workers lost their jobs and burst into tears. They are seen screaming about how their family will go and where they will go.
Jane Alam Khan, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Dhaka-1 Industrial Police, said that today, several factory authorities have been prohibited from firing workers. He said he was trying to solve the problem. He also said that additional police officers were deployed in front of the factory to avoid any unpleasant situation.
