Police raided two madrasas in the capital’s Lalbagh and Chawkbazar and confiscated 590 knives. Police say the seized knives were used by madrasa authorities for animal sacrifices during Eid. In the ongoing riots, the knives have been confiscated so that no one can use them violently.
A team of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Chawkbazar area police raided Jamia Islamia Islambagh in Chawkbazar and Jamia Qurania Arabia Madrasa in Lalabagh on Thursday afternoon (April 1). The police confiscated 185 knives from Jamia Islamia Islambagh Madrasa and 415 knives from Jamia Qurania Arabia.
Police said they conducted a search with the help of detectives based on information that the madrasah contained a large number of knives. The madrasa authorities have provided all kinds of assistance in the search. Knives are used for sacrifice during Eid. The knives have been stopped. It will be refunded again if needed during Eid. In the ongoing riots, knives have been confiscated to prevent them from being used with violence.
