Corona infection has once again become a concern for everyone. The government has decided to place a passenger in two seats in public transport to control the infection. At the same time, the rent has increased by 60 percent. Long distance transportation owners are in trouble because of this government decision. They have a lot of problems with advance tickets. On the other hand, the owners of the launch have not yet decided if they will carry half of the passengers. They say that in the meantime, advance tickets for intercity trains are on sale until April 4. Most of the tickets have been sold. Meanwhile, no new decisions have been made in the field of air travel.
Speaking with the owners and managers of the transports that travel from the capital city to different districts, it was learned that they have not yet received any official decision. Also, passengers who have sold advance tickets are thinking about how to adjust their tickets. They also said that there may be problems with the passengers. Long-distance bus owners say the problem is not only in Dhaka, but also in those districts that travel to Dhaka from different parts of the country. As a result, those passengers will not pay an additional 60 percent fare in any way. Passengers will have to discuss with the bus staff in the district. Apart from this, the government has not given any blockades so far, such a sudden decision on public transport could cause problems in all districts except the capital.
Meanwhile, following the government’s decision, the Ministry of Railways has asked all railway stations in the east and west of the railway to prepare for the implementation of the instructions of interested persons, including managers. The directive has been in place since yesterday. However, there is a crisis in the departure of the train with half of the passengers. Sources at the railway building said that since yesterday efforts have been made to make the train work with 50 percent of passengers in compliance with hygiene regulations. However, early tickets have created problems. Meanwhile, most tickets for all trains were sold out until April 4. Now the railway authorities have not made any mandatory way to return the tickets. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that the train will run with half a passenger before April 5.
In this regard, the Additional Director General (Operations) of Railways Sardar Shahadat Ali said: “Passengers are being transported in half the seats on all other intercity trains. There is no problem here as there is no advance ticket problem. As a result, as of today (Tuesday) 50 percent of the seats on those trains are being tracked.
Meanwhile, the government public transportation committee, headed by the BRTA president, recommended on Monday a 60 percent increase in fares and one passenger in two seats. Per the recommendation, this arrangement will continue for two weeks. The Minister of Road Transport and Bridges informed the media yesterday about the decision. The government proposed a 16-point recommendation to avoid a second corona wave. One of the recommendations is to adhere to hygiene regulations in public transport, carry half of the passenger capacity and increase bus fares by 60 percent so that bus owners do not suffer losses. Last year a similar system was introduced in public transport to avoid the crown.
Rafiqul Islam, manager of Gonden Line Transport from Dhaka to Faridpur, said: “So far we have not received any instructions from the owners association. I heard about the government’s decision on television. Many passengers of our transport have advance tickets, how to coordinate them is cause for concern. Passengers who have booked tickets in advance will definitely not want to pay an additional 80 percent fee.
Kazi Faridul Haque Happy, a member of the executive committee of the Bangladesh Truck and Bus Owners Association, said the decision was made suddenly, but it had to be implemented in the interest of the people, but the bus authorities had to face various problems.
Khandaker Enayetullah, Secretary General of the Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association, Dhaka’s largest public transport organization, said: “Bus owners will have to suffer during the first days from the problem of increasing fares and carrying a passenger in two seats. In many cases, passengers will not want to accept, again many have booked in advance, they will not want to pay an additional fee. But the bottom line is that we have to abide by the government’s decision and the public interest decision.
Meanwhile, Kamalapur train station manager Mohammad Masud Sarwar said: “As of April 4, more than half of the tickets for most trains have been sold. We have stopped selling the remainder. Now the odd numbered tickets (12, 14, 16) are on sale.
Shariful Alam, a public relations officer for the Ministry of Railways, said that half of the total tickets for each train were sold as of today (Tuesday). Of these, 50 percent are sold at the box office and 50 percent online.
Meanwhile, BIWTA Deputy Director Gulzar Ali said: “Half of the capacity is passengers and no decision has been made to increase rates. I can say that it is a decision at the ministerial level. Since the ship is large, we saw it there. Keeping the distance, it will continue as last year.
Regarding the increase in fares or less passenger transport, Siddiqur Rahman Patwari, secretary of the Bangladesh Inland Navigation Organization (Passenger Transport), said: ‘Bus and train fares have been increased at the beginning of Corona. Only we do not receive any additional rent. But passengers have had to carry much less. If it is done again, we will not be able to do it.
The aircraft will operate according to the above rules: the seating arrangement of the aircraft on the internal route for the transport of passengers by air remains the same as before. This means that airlines will be able to carry passengers leaving an empty back row. However, the number of seats on large international aircraft has been reduced. However, passengers are still transported with the old fare.
In this regard, US-Bangla Airlines Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Captain Sikder Mezbahuddin Ahmed said: ‘We are not thinking of increasing fares at this time. We are operating the flight in accordance with the instructions of the Civil Aviation Authority to prevent corona infection. I am implementing all kinds of instructions, including the use of masks and face shields for the passengers.
