The evildoers set fire to the temple of Radha Govinda in Dhunat upazila of Bogra and smashed the idol of Saraswati. The incident took place around 3 p.m. on Monday (March 29) in the village of Tengrakhali in the Chowkibari Upazila Union.
According to police sources, there is an idol of Saraswati in the Radha Govinda temple on the shore of the Tengrakhali government body of water in the upazila. People from the local Hindu community worship there. There is no night watchman in that temple. On this occasion, who or what smashed the Saraswati idol after setting fire to the Radha Govinda temple on Monday night.
Upon receiving the news, Bogra (SP) Police Superintendent Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan, Additional Police Superintendent Gaziur Rahman, Dhunat Upazila Nirbahi (UN) Officer Sanjay Kumar Mahanta and the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Kripa Sindhu Bala police visited the point. The Saraswati idol, which was vandalized at the Radha Govinda Temple, was thrown into the Tengrakhali body of water on the instructions of the administration.
Khoka Chandra Hawlader, chairman of the Tenrakhali Radha Govinda temple management committee, said who or what set the temple on fire and smashed the idol overnight. However, the incident is believed to have taken place due to a dispute over the tengrakhali reservoir lease. Preparations are underway to present a case at the police station.
Bogra (SP) Police Superintendent Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan said the place was visited after receiving the news. Investigations are underway to identify those involved in the incident.
