A Juba League activist named Mohammad Ali Manu (32) has been beaten to death in Sadar upazila of Noakhali.
The incident took place at the Dattabari intersection in the Kashipur area of the municipality around 9pm on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Ali Manu, son of the late Akbar Ali from the area. He was an activist for the Juba Municipal League.
However, the family alleged that there was a dispute with the family of the murdered Manu over the property of his uncle Iqbal. His relatives headed by Uncle Iqbal carried out the murder.
Ahmed Ali, the victim’s brother, alleged that some people, including his uncle Iqbal Hossain and his associates Shahadat Hossain and Liton Das, called Manu from the mosque after Asr’s prayers. After that, they took Manu to Litton’s siding shop and beat him randomly with iron bars and hammers.
Upon hearing the news, Manu was rescued from the scene and taken to Noakhali General Hospital. Shortly after receiving treatment there, the doctor on duty declared him dead.
The Sudharam OC Shaheduddin model police station said the body of the deceased was recovered and sent to the General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The OC said the matter was being investigated.
