10 injured, 15 arrested in clashes with BNP leaders and activists in Chittagong

At least 10 people, including a policeman, were injured in a clash with BNP activists in Kazir Deuri of Chittagong. Police arrested 15 people in the incident.

Chittagong (South) Deputy Commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan confirmed the information.

The crash took place in the Kazir Deuri area around 3.30 p.m. today.

Mehedi Hasan said that police officers on duty outside the BNP Nasimon Bhaban office in Qazi Deuri were attacked with bricks, attacked and barricaded in the streets. Five members of the police were injured. They are being given first aid.

He added that the police took steps to control the situation and that 15 BNP leaders and activists were arrested. Legal action will be taken in this regard.

Previously, the BNP was accused of obstructing the protest procession.

Chittagong Metropolitan (South) Additional Police Commissioner Palash Kanti Nath said the Chittagong Metropolitan BNP eliminated the protest procession. At this time, the police persecuted the leaders and activists.

Later, when BNP activists blocked the road, the police removed them with batons.

Palash Kanti Nath told The Daily Star that when BNP activists attacked the police, the police dispersed them.

He said the situation is now under control.

Abu Sufian, joint coordinator of the Chittagong Metropolitan BNP, told The Daily Star that the police opened fire on the procession without provocation as they marched to the party’s office in Kazir Deuri around 3pm. At least 20 of our leaders and workers were shot. They have been admitted to various hospitals in the city.

Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, organizing secretary of the Chittagong division of the BNP, complained that, as part of the core program, we were running a protest program. There the police attacked our leaders and activists.

On Independence Day, a procession was held in different parts of the country including Dhaka, Chittagong, Brahmanbaria to protest the attacks and killings by the Awami League and the police.
