Chittagong: Traffic in the port city of Chittagong has been normal since Sunday morning (March 26) following a strike called by Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh. The strikers were not seen on the streets.
BGB members are on the ground together with the police and the RAB to keep law and order normal. Members of the police have been asked to be on high alert to prevent any sabotage.
Although the vehicles circulated through different parts of the city in the morning, the number was smaller. Long-distance passengers must wait at the bus counter. Furthermore, the movement of trains on the Nazirhat-Dohazari line has been suspended as students from Qawmi Madrasa in the Hathazari area collected the slippers from the train track.

All trains running on the Eastern Railway run a few hours later than the scheduled time. Authorities said the violence disrupted the schedule. Trains have to run slower as part of violence prevention.
Mohammad Jahangir Hossain, General Manager (GM) of Eastern Railway, said the train should run now that safety has been ensured. The train will also run during the strike. The front road will be inspected with an engine before the night trains depart. The train is running only after receiving instructions from the emergency cell.
Meanwhile, several like-minded political parties, including Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, have voiced their moral support for the strike. The BNP has described the issue as logical although it did not formally support the strike.
On the other hand, the leaders and workers of the Awami League and its affiliates are in the field to prevent any sabotage and violence on behalf of Hifazat Hartal.
The situation in Hathazari remains tense on Sunday (March 26). Law enforcement officers have been seen patrolling the area. Barricades are being erected at various locations in the area from Hathazari Madrasa to the bus stop. Traffic on the Chittagong-Khagrachhari Highway is closed.
Hefazat-e-Islam has called for a strike in the morning night over protests, demonstrations and clashes against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
