Sylhet: Giant tigerfish weighing 300 kg caught in Kushiara has been sold at the Sylhet market for four lakh rupees.
Vendor Billal Hossain and his brother Anwar Hossain cut and sold the fish in Lalbazar in the city on Wednesday (March 24).
The fish was caught in a fishermen’s net in the Kushiara River in Fenchuganj upazila de Sylhet on Tuesday (March 23) at 11 am Later, the fishermen brought the fish to the Kazirbazar Hossain Ahmed fishmonger for sale. The fish merchant Billal and his brother, a Kushighat resident in the Khadimpara junction of Sadar upazila, bought the fish there.

Fish trader Billal Hossain told banglanews that they bought the tiger fish together with two brothers. No one would buy such a big fish together, so they cut it up and sold it over the microphone.
Billal Mia, a fishmonger, added that tigers are often caught from the Kushiyara River in Fenchuganj. Even before the tiger was captured, the size of the fish was not that big.
In answer to the question, Billal said, the weight of the fish exceeds 300 kg. He wants a price of three and a half lakh rupees for the sale. However, he said he would sell it if he could get two and a half to three lakhs of rupees. He eventually cut it up and sold it for twice the price of about four lakh rupees.
It is known that on October 29 last year, a pair of tigers were caught in the fishing net at Fenchuganj Hakaluki Haor in Sylhet. Earlier on September 4, a tiger-eyed fish weighing about four pounds was caught in Kushiyara. The fish was brought to the red market in the city, cut up and sold for 2,500 rupees per kg.
At the beginning of April 6, a tiger and another fish were caught in a prison net in the river adjacent to the village of Dubairchar in Zakiganj upazila. Fish was also bought and sold at the red market in the town of Sylhet.
