Dhaka: Nepal will increase “meaningful cooperation” with Bangladesh. Visiting Nepal President Vidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have discussed ways to strengthen trade and increase meaningful cooperation between the two countries.
On Monday afternoon (March 22), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid a courtesy visit to the visiting President of Nepal at the Intercontinental Hotel in the capital. During the meeting, Vidya Devi emphasized on improving meaningful communication between the two countries.
Later, the prime minister’s press secretary, Ihsanul Karim, briefed reporters on the meeting.
During the meeting, the president of Nepal emphasized enhancing “meaningful cooperation” between the two countries. At the same time, he spoke of increasing communication between BIMSTEC member countries.
Vidya Devi expressed her gratitude to Bangladesh for responding to the urgent need for fertilizers in Nepal.
He also thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for proposing to use the Bangladesh Seaport and Syedpur Airport.
In South Asia, both Bangladesh and Nepal face the adverse effects of natural disasters. The President of Nepal also said that their respective resources should be maximized to deal with disasters.
Emphasizing the signing of the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) to boost trade between the two countries, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the PTA agreement would be beneficial to both countries.
Emphasizing on strengthening connectivity between BBIN members (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal), the Prime Minister said that he would expand trade in the region.
Sheikh Hasina highlighted the importance of building hydroelectric projects using Nepalese water resources in collaboration with Bangladesh, India and Nepal.
Praising Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership at the meeting, the President of Nepal said: “You are a great inspiring leader in the world.” At that moment, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told him, I am his fan.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presented a commemorative coin to the President of Nepal, Vidya Devi Bhandari, on the occasion of the Mujib Year.
The President of Nepal handed over two books, “Bangabandhu’s Unfinished Autobiography” and “Prison Diary” translated into Nepali to the Prime Minister.
Sheikh Hasina thanked the President of Nepal for coming to Dhaka to attend the centennial celebrations of Bangabandhu’s birth and the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence.
Sheikh Hasina also recalled with gratitude the support of the Nepalese people, including supplying weapons to freedom fighters during the War of Independence.

The President of Nepal was accompanied by his daughter Usha Kiran Bhandari, Chancellor Pradeep Kumar Gowali and Chancellor of the Nepalese Academy Ganga Prayad Upreti.
