Archer received a painkiller injection in his right elbow after the first test on the India tour. He was not in the second test later. Back in the third test, the fast pitcher did not play in the fourth and final test.
However, Archer has played all five T20s. The ECB said the problem had worsened during the series. That is why it was not included in the ODI series.
The 14-member squad for the three-game series was handed over by the ECB on Sunday. There are 9 members of the 2019 World Cup winning team in the ODI against India. Joe Root and Chris Oakes are back in England after the Test series.
First-order hitter Tom Banton is also out of the team along with Roots and Oaks from the last series in Australia. In the Australian series he was in the team but did not play in any game.
Matt Parkinson, the leg spinner, has been named to the ODI team a year later. It made its debut in T20 and ODI in 2019 and the following year. He is the only cricketer who is with the team all the time on the England tour of Asia.
Liam Livingstone is on the team looking forward to his ODI debut. Left arm pacemaker Reese Topley and all-rounder Ben Stokes, who played 11 ODIs, are also making a comeback.
England have Jack Ball, Chris Jordan and David Malan as reserve cricketers.
The two teams will meet in the first match in Pune next Tuesday. The next two matches on the same field are Friday and Sunday.
