A Gazipur City Corporation engineer named Marzia Akhter Jannat alias Anika Tabassum (24) died when she was hit by a truck on her way home from her office in Gazipur. Another was injured at the time.
The accident took place in the Bhogra Chowdhury Bari area below the Basan police station on the Dhaka-Mymensingh road on Saturday (March 20) evening. The deceased was identified as Anika, daughter of Haji Masud Alam from the West Joydebpur area below the Sadar Police Station in Gazipur. He is the Deputy Assistant Engineer (Gasik) for Gazipur City Corporation (GASIC).
Basan Police Station Deputy Inspector Al Amin of the Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Al Amin said Anika was returning home on a motorcycle with a friend from the Chandna Chowrasta area office around 8 : 15 pm on Saturday. On the way, a Dhaka-bound truck collided with a motorcycle when it reached the Bhogra Chowdhury Bari area below the Basan Police Station on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. Anika was killed instantly when she fell from her motorcycle on the road and was hit by a truck.
He added that his accomplice, motorcyclist Abdullah Al Imran, was injured in the incident. He was rescued and sent to the hospital. Upon receiving the news, the police recovered the body of the deceased from the scene. The truck fled after the accident. Legal action is being taken in this regard.
