The Police Investigation Bureau (PBI) Sylhet arrested Shahidul Islam (independent member), the main defendant in a case brought in connection with the attack, looting and vandalism of a house of a Hindu minority in Shalla, Sunamganj. PBI Sylhet Police Superintendent Muhammad Khaled Uz Zaman confirmed the matter to Jago News.
He said that the independent member was arrested on Friday (March 19) evening in Kulaura in the Moulvibazar district.
It can be mentioned that last Wednesday, 6 minority houses in the Noagaon village of Habibpur, union of Shalla upazila, were attacked for granting status to Allama Mamunul Haque, the central deputy general secretary of Hefazat-e-Islam on Facebook. Money and gold ornaments were looted from these houses.
Habibpur UP President Vivekananda Majumder Bakul presented the first case on Thursday evening. The main defendant was Shahidul Islam Swadhin, a member of Dirai’s Taral Union Parishad.
Shahidul Islam Swadhin’s home is in the village of Dirai upazila, near Shalla, in Nachni. He is the president of the Juba League of the local district and a member of the Parishad Union.
