Hefazat’s central leader, Mamunul Haque, was attacked in the Hindu-dominated village of Noagaon at the Habipur junction of Shalla upazila. It has been known that Mamunul Haque will again be invited to an Islamic conference in Jamalganj upazila. The conference is scheduled for March 21 at the Jamalganj heliport.

Meanwhile, the Hindus-inhabited Noagaon residents remain terrified by the violence of Mamunul’s followers. Temporary RAB and police camps have been set up in the village to avoid adverse situations. In this situation, there is a fear that community harmony will be disrupted due to the convening of a rally by the Hefazat leader as a guest.

In addition, it has been reported that the name of the president of the League Jamalganj Upazila Awami has been used on the poster of the rally. He filed a GD with the police on Thursday night (March 18). Jamalganj Upazila Awami League President Alhaj Mohammad Ali Talukder said: “I filed a GD at Jamalganj Police Station for using my name on the poster without my permission.”

Meanwhile, the president of Jamalganj Upazila Parishad, Iqbal Al Azad, also made similar accusations. “My name has been used on the poster without comment,” he said. I have complained about this to the Upazila Nirbahi officer.

On the other hand, no permission was taken to hold the demonstration, said Saiful Alam, officer in charge of the Jamalganj police station. He said: “No one informed me about the arrival of Mamunul Haque, the deputy general secretary of Hefazat.”

Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Jahangir Hossain said the administration did not grant such permission for Mamunul Haque to come to Jamalganj. I have reported the matter to the higher authorities. The matter has been reported to the local deputy.

It is worth mentioning that supporters of Mamunul Haque, leader of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s anti-sculpture movement, attacked, looted and vandalized 6 houses in Noagaon village on Wednesday, March 18. The locals alleged that five temples in the village were vandalized at that time. The violence erupted at 9 a.m. Wednesday in response to a post by a young man named Jhumon Das Apan from the village of Noagaon mocking Mamnul Haque from his Facebook ID. Earlier on March 15, Hefazat Central Deputy General Secretary Mamunul Haque spoke at Dirai Stadium in Sunamganj.

The mobile phone number of Khadimul Quran Mahila Madrasa Jamalganj Muhtamim Alhaj Hafiz Maulana Kawsar Ahmed was contacted at the number on the poster to find out if permission had been obtained to organize the demonstration and entertain Mamunul Haque. However, no statement was received as he did not receive the call.
