The success and progress that Bangladesh is showing under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is a matter of great honor for her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said. He spoke as a special guest at the ‘Mujib Chirantan’ performance at the National Parade Square in Dhaka on Friday night.
Sri Lanka’s prime minister said that Bangladesh has continued its progress under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. The inspiring progress of the people of Bangladesh in natural disasters and poverty alleviation in the past 50 years is a sign of progress towards becoming a prosperous state.
Rajapakse said that Bangladesh is considered the main emerging economic center of South Asia. Bangladesh is a major trading and investor partner of Sri Lanka. Trade between the two countries has continued to grow rapidly over the past decades. He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s proposal to foster a “blue economy” in the Bay of Bengal has also inspired Sri Lanka’s initiative at sea. Sri Lanka has also noted the enormous progress of Bangladesh in the agricultural sector. In addition to playing an active role through the SAARC Agriculture Center in Dhaka, Bangladesh has continued to build capacity and provide training to Sri Lankan institutions, Rajapaksa said. He looked forward to further cooperation from the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in this regard.
The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka said that despite the many challenges of the Kavid-19 epidemic, he came to Bangladesh in person with a message of goodwill from the people of Sri Lanka. He said: ‘The history of friendly relations between our two countries is very old. Many wise people believe that the Bengal people first came to Sri Lanka by sea 2,500 years ago. He said that there was good trade between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka even in the 6th century BC. C. Naturally, it is one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Bangladesh. In 1971, Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations with Bangladesh. On the occasion of the centenary of Bangabandhu’s birth and the golden jubilee of independence, Rajapakse said that the people of Bangladesh are celebrating two historic events. Both incidents are quite significant. He said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a man of principle. He has dedicated his entire life to the people of Bangladesh, their language and their kindness.
Mahinda Rajapakse said: “Unfortunately, the dream that he (Bangabandhu) used to cherish for his country could not survive until it came true.” You can understand the pain of irreparable damage on August 15, 1975. On that day, this state lost its hero and father of freedom. At the same time, she lost her beloved daughter to her parents and siblings.
To pay tribute to the legacy of Bangabandhu on behalf of the king, quoting part of the world poet Rabindranath Tagore’s poem, he said in his own words: “In this 21st century, with the great prospects of Asia, we need to know the countless sacrifices of your ancestors. To achieve independence for two generations, “Rajapakse said.
The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka said that as a neighbor and friend, Sri Lanka supports the independence and prosperity of Bangladesh. “Our top priorities, such as economic transformation, poverty alleviation and sustainable development goals, are among the greatest challenges,” he said. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said: “Bangladesh is fertile and has many crops. Very few countries in the world have fertile lands like ours. “The geographic location of our two countries has created great opportunities for trade, people-to-people contacts and maritime cooperation,” he said.
On behalf of the King, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina conveyed her warmest greetings to her government and the people of Bangladesh.
