In Kushtia, five officials, including the Undersecretary of the Electoral Commission Secretariat, were suspended for alleged involvement in the NID card fraud. They were fired in a separate letter signed by Election Commission Secretary Humayun Kabir Khandaker and Deputy Secretary Kamal Uddin Biswas on Monday.

The dismissed officials are Nawabul Islam, Undersecretary of the Electoral Commission Secretariat and former Kushtia District Election Officer Ziaur Rahman, Faridpur Additional Regional Election Officer and former Kushtia Sadar upazila Election Officer, Amit Kumar Das, former Kushtia Election Officer Upazila de Magura and Kushtia Sadar upazila, elections officer, assistant to the district elections office, GM Sadiq and Kushtia Sadar Upazila, elections officer, Samiul Alam.

On March 5, Kushtia District Senior Elections Officer Anisur Rahman filed a lawsuit against the five officials from the Kushtia Sadar and Kumarkhali Police Stations for allegedly falsifying NID cards. Anisur Rahman said: “I first presented this case on the basis of the recommendation of the investigative committee formed in the NID fraud case. Later, they were removed from office in a separate letter signed by the secretary and co-secretary of the Electoral Commission.
